Sirens’ Dancing Stylist

stylist_karla

Meet Sirens best kept highlighting secret, Karla! This girl is to highlights what Justin Timberlake is to boy bands. If her long luscious locks don’t say enough about her passion for hair, her talent surely will. Karla has been with Sirens for four years, and has been doing hair since 2005.

When she isn’t styling up her clients hair at the salon, she is off to the dance studio. Karla spent her childhood doing cheerleading and gymnastics, and began dance when she was four. Her dedication to the arts shines through while she styles and cuts.

If you are looking for a new do with out-of-this-world highlights, Karla is your girl! She lights up our days like she lights up hair. In the most wonderful way!

Unite Fashion Shoot

photo 4-10This past week Sirens Salon owner, Emma, was involved in a two day Unite Academy fashion shoot. And while we were super jealous of her amazing trip to California, we were also amazed by the wonderful things she created!

Emma was paired with another hairdresser, make up artist, fashion stylist, and photographer. They were given short amounts of time to come up with different concepts and turn them into looks. Much like our style at Sirens, they went for an edgy and avant-garde inspiration.

This is Emma’s second trip to the Unite Academy this year. The third for the salon as a whole. And we had a blast hosting two salon education classes on Unites behalf this year. We are fans!

Emma said her favorite part of the trip was pushing the envelope of creativity. Something we like to hold true for all of our stylist at Sirens.

Sirens Color Run Fun!

photo-315

At Sirens we believe is beauty from the inside out. Hair and make up isn’t the only business we take care of, but making our clients feel great is a priority too! And we don’t just stop there, we make sure we do the same for ourselves too.

This weekend Owner Emma and her niece had a blast with the Austin Color Run! They mixed in some fun with their work out. Something that goes perfect with Sirens Salon! Here are a few clips clips we got of their adventure down the road of color:

Let Your Eyes Shine!

photo-273 I have been working with Sirens Salon for a few months now, taking photos and raving about the amazing work I watch them do. Being a granola type girl, it is rare for me to touch my hair or make up, and though they have done great work for photo shoots and blog tutorials, I’ve never gotten down to the nitty gritty with the salon.

That was until yesterday. Sitting in the back room I heard Owner Emma’s voice trickle in “Dye Shelby’s eyelashes!”

My only question: “What is they all fall out? You can’t fix that can you?”

Sitting down in the waxing chair my heart began to race, my mind fluttering to all the things that could go wrong. And then, we began.

My body instantly at ease as Sirens stylist, Lauren, took me step by step through the process, asking many time if everything felt alright, and keeping conversation even when I had to lay eyes closed for 10 minutes.

Time and time again I watch these girls do amazing work, and I watch them be the most humbling and comforting salon staff. They are gracious and professional, but most of all, they truly care. They want the best for their clients and take great pride in their work.

It also didn’t hurt that when I woke up in a frenzy from a missed alarm this morning, I took a look in the mirror and was able to bypass makeup all together. Something that before would have never been the case with terribly transparent lashes.

So thank you Sirens, for keeping my spider legs in tact, and for walking me through a quite concerning experience.

**Eyelash dying is $30.00 and last for about 4 weeks.

Hair How Too: The Fishtail

photo-279

Fishtail braids always look plain and simple… until you start to do one yourself. Here at Sirens we don’t just want to do your hair, we want to teach you how to do it too! Our stylist, Lauren, took us through step-by-step instructions on how to perfect the perfect braid:

Screen shot 2013-09-04 at 11.58.25 AM

1) Part your hair into pony tails (or keep as one large braid if desired). Take the first half of hair and slit it down the middle.

Screen shot 2013-09-04 at 11.58.41 AM

2) Take a small portion of hair from the outside of one of the two halves and lace it over on top to the other half of hair.

Screen shot 2013-09-04 at 11.57.59 AM

3) Combine the laced piece with the existing half and repeat the step above from the opposite half.

photo-277

4) Continue pulling hair from the outer sides of the two halves and lacing it over to the opposite side.

5) Continue tightening hair as you lace strands to either side. Tie ends off with a small rubber band and admire the awesome work you just did!
